We in this country, in this generation, are–by destiny rather than choice–the watchmen on the walls of world freedom. We ask, therefore, that we may be worthy of our power and responsibility, that we may exercise our strength with wisdom and restraint, and that we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of “peace on earth, good will toward men.” That must always be our goal, and the righteousness of our cause must always underlie our strength (From the speech JFK was to deliver in Dallas on November 22, 1963).
The reference Kennedy was alluding to is the Biblical watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem whose responsibility it was to diligently watch for approaching enemies and to defend the city. Like the watchmen guarding ancient Jerusalem, Kennedy’s undelivered speech asks us to protect world peace. However, there is another precious entity that needs protecting, that of truth.
First and second generation researchers were the Watchmen that first battled distorted information that assailed the truth of the Kennedy assassination. As the arrows of lies begin to take flight, the watchmen held high their shields constructed of released documents and the interpretation of newly released evidence. Likely aware failure meant a distorted historical narrative for our country, they stood a united force against the Warren Commission’s deceitfulness. However, many of the old warriors are now gone, leaving empty places on the wall. New historical researchers moved forward to assume the burden of their responsibility. Groups like JFK Lancer, the Mary Ferrell Organization, and CTKA, together with individual authors have joined those left in protecting the truth. Nevertheless, there are still places for others to enlist in this significant fight, and the promise of a more contemporary arsenal.
We have a larger shield than the first watchmen; we have more documents, better research, and the latest forensic findings. But, we have to hold them up, or the relentless barrage of arrows of deception will penetrate the wall. I encourage you to join the watchmen as they protect the truth and promote it to others. Only by standing shoulder to shoulder can we be assured the truth is told. It is a big battle, but the enemy consist of individuals who can be converted through education and thoughtful intervention. Remember, you may be only one, but you are one, and even one can make a difference. So, do what you can and hope others do their part, because together, we are more than just one.
